CURCHOREM: Curchorem Police on Sunday arrested the main accused one Aditya Gujjar, a 19-year-old native of Gaziabad, Uttar Pradesh for allegedly murdering 38-year-old Basauraj Bassu Barki in his apartment at Curchorem.
According to PI Ravindra Dessai, after receiving reliable information from sources on the accused’s whereabouts in Gaziabad, a special police team led by PSI Damodar Shirodkar visited Uttar Pradesh and apprehended him with the help of Indirapuram Police and brought him to Goa.
“The accused has confessed of his involvement in the crime and has been remanded to three days police custody after producing him before the JMFC, Quepem,” Dessai informed.
It may be recalled that victim’s wife Kalpana Bassu Barki and her four accomplices had allegedly murdered Basauraj by strangulating him with a nylon rope and later had cut his body into pieces and stuffed them in the three empty rice bags. The bags were transported in a four-wheeler and later dumped at three different places at Anmod Ghat.
The woman and her three other accomplices namely Suresh Kumar Solanki (28), a native of Rajasthan and resident of Bebquegal; Abdul Karim Shaikh (25), a resident of Cacora-Curchorem and Pankaj Pawar (45), a resident of Aquem-Margao were earlier arrested under Sections 302 and 201 r/w 34 IPC.
Following investigations, the police had recovered a nylon rope, which was used to strangulate the victim at the instance of accused Suresh Salunke. The same was hidden under the empty cement bags dumped besides a road near the GSUDA market at Curchorem. At the instance of Pankaj Pawar, the police recovered the four weapons including a cutter and koita from the jungle at Assolda, which were used to cut the body into pieces. Later, the vehicle, which was used to transport the body parts, was also seized.
