MARGAO: Salgaocar Football Club rode on a 48th minute goal from striker Lenin D’Mello to edge past Goa United Sports Academy (GUSA) 1-0 and book their place in the final of under-14 inter-district play-off at Cansaulim Sports Complex, Friday. There was no score at half time.
The match started on a bright note with the teams creating umpteen chances. Salgaocar began to call the shots and put Goa United Sports Academy under pressure. Their efforts nearly materialized but striker Lenin’s fine effort missed the target narrowly.
At the other end, Goa United Sports Academy did not lag behind and raided the rival citadel time and again. However, their forwards muffed chances from ideal position.
Crossing over, Salgaocar attacked with more urgency and their efforts bore fruit in the 48th minute when Melbon Pereira’s try hit the crossbar and the rebound was smartly headed into the goal by Lenin.
After the early setback, Goa United Sports Academy did well to come back into the game. They created some decent chances which tested Salgaocar goalkeeper Rollan Gaonkar.
