VASCO: Vasco MLA and KTC Chairman Carlos Almeida on Friday stated that the construction work of the fish market project will start by October, as the plans have been approved by the Vasco Planning and Development Authority (PDA).
“The construction work of the fish market project will start by October as the plans have been approved by Vasco PDA. We have already paid the required fees for the approval of the plans to Vasco PDA and the file is with the Goa State Infrastructure Development Authority (GSUDA) and it’s at the tendering stage,” Almeida told Herald.
When asked when he will lay the foundation stone of the fish market project, Almeida said he does not believe in laying foundation stones in advance. “I will lay the foundation stone on the day the work of the fish market project starts,” he said.
“In the past, many foundation stones have been laid, but the outcome is zero and the works are yet to start. We will lay the foundation stone and start the work of the fish market on the same day,” added Almeida.
Asked where he will rehabilitate the fish vendors once the work on the fish market commences, he said he will shift the KTC shuttle bus service at T B Cunha Square and allot the city bus stand space to the fish vendors.
“Before shifting the fish vendors, there will be a power point presentation at St Andrew’s Church hall Vasco on September 14 about the new fish market, where views of the fish vendors will be taken into consideration,” he said.
When asked further whether he will also shift the city buses to KTC bus stand at Mundevel, Almeida said for time being all the city buses will operate from their present stops and once the new KTC bus stand is ready the city buses will be shifted to the KTC bus stand and the city will be decongested of heavy vehicles.
