MARGAO:   A house went up in flames at Per-Seraulim on Sunday morning following a LPG cylinder blast, leaving a woman inmate critically injured.
The fire is suspected to have been caused by a LPG cylinder blast, destroying the house and injuring the inmate. The blast could be heard in the neighbourhood as neighbours rushed to the rescue of injured Sahida Naiwadi as she came rushing out of the house while still in flames.
A neighbour Inacia Fernandes sustained injuries on her hand as she along with her daughter tried to remove the clothes of the victim. She was immediately rushed to Hospicio hospital, from where she was shifted to the GMC Bambolim, having sustained 75 per cent burn injuries.
A fire officer attached to the Verna fire station told the media at the site that the house was almost gutted in the fire.
“Nearly 90 per cent of the house was destroyed before the fire brigade reached the spot”, he said.  Locals and neighbours joined in the firefighting operations as the fire brigade helped in the rescue and relief operation, as the fire also damaged two adjoining houses.
All the household items, including a TV set, refrigerator, costumes and cupboard were destroyed in fire.
The fire service personnel recovered some gold ornaments from the cupboard.
The total loss is estimated to be Rs 2.5 lakh with the Naiwadi house loss being Rs 1.5 lakh while both neighbours are estimated to have suffered individual loss of Rs 50,000.
