MARGAO: The poly film pouch with old MRP of Goa Dairy has resulted in huge confusions between the retailers and the customers. Several incidents of heated arguments from both the sides have been reported from across Goa state.
On the other hand the marketing section of the Goa Dairy has said that the issue will be resolved within next few days.
At the moment the Goa State Co-Operative Milk Producers Union Limited has been trying hard to draw the attention of the public on the issue through the notices, but many customers seem to be very particular about the MRP.
It is pertinent to note that the revised rate of the Goa Dairy milk has been implemented since May 1, after the State government giving go ahead to the Goa Dairy’s proposal to hike milk price. Following constant rise in prices of raw material and increased cost of transportation the proposal was put by Goa Dairy to the government for a hike of Rs 4 per litre.
However, the poly film pouches of the Goa Dairy are still the old ones, which has created lots of confusion amongst the customers, and retailers.
Speaking to Herald few retailers and even the customers expressed anger over the management of the Goa Dairy with regard to the price issue. They are of the opinion that as per the consumer rights any customer can counter the retailer pointing out fingers to the old rate on the pouch.
“Why should I buy the pouch of the milk by paying more? I am a regular customer of Goa Dairy milk. I knew that the revised rate would be implemented from May 1, but to my surprise the rate printed on the milk pouch was the old one”, said Kishore Shirodkar from Margao.
He further questioned the management of the Goa Dairy for implementing the new rate when they are not ready for it.
“Goa Dairy should have first got the poly film pouch with the new rate on it. What was the need to implement the revised rate in haste”? he questioned.
Christopher Fernandes, another customer from Curtorim made a point to remind the Goa Dairy of the civic and consumer rights.
“Any retailers or the shop owner cannot take extra money from the customer beyond the MRP. The notice published by the Goa Dairy doesn’t hold any reasoning”, he said.
Shankar Desai, a retailer, said that he has stopped selling the milk of Goa Dairy due to the confusion of revised rate and the old pouch.
“Customers are simply targeting us without any fault of ours. The first question of the Goa dairy consumers is how come retailers take more money when the actual MRP printed on the pouch is less”, he said.
He further said that there are many customers who are very particular to the MRP.
“Retailers cannot fool the customers. At the moment we are being targeted for no fault of ours, and hence it is our request to the management of the Goa Dairy not to implement the revised rate unless the pouch with new MRP”, he requested.
An official of the Goa Dairy Marketing Section said that the issue will be resolved by next few days.
“We have already given the notice to the retailers, besides all centres and Goa Dairy booths, informing them about the issue. As per the notice, the public in general is made aware that milk will be packed in a poly film pouch with old MRP, till they receive a new MRP poly film pouch”, he said.
