Veteran Communist Party of India (CPI) leader and former Member of Parliament Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy passed away on Friday night at the age of 83. He had been undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Hyderabad for age-related ailments.
Born on March 25, 1942, in Kondravpally village of Telangana’s Mahabubnagar district, Reddy was drawn to Left-wing ideology from a young age. His political activism began early—at just 15, he led a student agitation in Kurnool demanding basic amenities in schools.

Reddy went on to become a two-time Member of Parliament, representing the Nalgonda constituency in the 12th Lok Sabha (1998–1999) and again in the 14th Lok Sabha (2004–2009). In Parliament, he was widely respected for championing workers’ rights, social justice, and the welfare of farmers and marginalized communities.
A steadfast voice against corruption, Reddy was admired across political lines for his commitment to integrity and people’s causes. His passing marks the end of an era for the Left movement in Telangana and beyond.
