Five days after Herald exposed the MBBS paper leakage scam, the Agassaim police on Friday registered a case against six paper setters in the matter.
Police Inspector Vishwesh Karpe told Herald that they have registered a case based on the Goa University inquiry report.
The case is registered after an inquiry into a corruption complaint made by Kashinath Shetye and others, wherein they alleged that General Medicine I and II papers of third year MBBS were deliberately leaked with the motive for wrongful and monitory gains.
“The GU committee report had ample evidence that the question papers of the third year MBBS are leaked.
The report recommended that a detailed investigation is required into the leakage,” Karpe told Herald.
A case under the Goa Prevention of Malpractices Act University, Board and Other Specified Examinations Act 1991 has been registered against the unknown paper setters.
Goa Medical College (GMC) Dean Dr V N Jindal had confirmed to Agassaim police that the medical exam papers – General Medicine I and II – were leaked to students prior to the exam.
GU had formed a three-member inquiry committee following the leakage of two MBBS question papers.
The GMC in consultation with GU immediately cancelled the papers minutes before students could appear for General Medicine II.
General Medicine-I paper which was already answered by the students on January 1 also stood cancelled.
The committee today submitted its preliminary inquiry confirming that the papers were leaked. Herald on Monday had exposed the paper leakage after which prompt actions were taken by the GMC and GU.
GU is forming another committee to conduct a detailed parallel inquiry into the matter.
