16 p.c. mangroves under threat,11 species face extinction: study

PANJIM, April 28 An international environmental watch dog has said that one-sixth of mangroves are under threat due to rapid developmental activities. In its first ever global assessment on the conservation status of mangroves, the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) in its Red List of Threatened Species released recently, has pointed out that 11 out of 70 mangrove species (16 percent) are under edge of extinction.
