PANJIM: Vailankanni Sports Club, Morjim prevailed over Milagres Sports Club 2-1 in the inaugural match of 7th Rusi Daver Cup Inter-Village Football tournament organized by Adarsh Yuvak Sangh, at Saligao ground, on Monday.
Both the teams began the match on a promising note creating a couple of goal scoring opportunities very early. However, Milagres SC took the lead in the 10th minute off a counter attack move with Shailesh Misquin finding the net off a pass by Krishna. Stung by reverse, Morjim went all out in search of the equalizer but the goals were hard to come.
Changing ends, Morjim scored the equalizer in the 45th minute through the boots of Dietmar Fernandes. Hardly had the cheers died down when Amit Fernandes put Morjim ahead off a neat placement in the 48th minute.
Morjim could have increased the lead further but their forwards failed to score. Milagres SC also came close to drawing level on couple of occasions but their forwards messed up chances.
Earlier, Elizabeth Daver and Anthony Daver kicked off the tournament in presence of Club President and Sarpanch of Saligao Eknath Oraskar, Vice President Krishna Mhaloji and other members.
