VALPOI: Election to Ward 3 of Morlem Panchayat will be held on August 3, as per the notification received by the office of Sattari mamlatdar. Filing of nomination forms will commence on August 1.
The Director of Panchayat has converted Ward 3 into General — earlier it was reserved for OBC women.
According to villagers, the population in Ward 3 belongs to general category and no OBC community person resides there. Though there are five OBC families in the ward, they are not registered as OBC and they don’t have OBC certificate.
The voting population of Ward 3 is 420.
According to records, no one filed nomination from Ward 3 for the June 11 for Panchayat election, necessitating special election for the ward.
