PANJIM: Against the backdrop of the Archbishop of Delhi appealing for prayers ahead of the 2019 general elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Goa has decided to reach out to all religious heads in the State, highlighting the achievements of the Narendra Modi-led government, as it completes four years in power on Saturday.
The BJP Goa unit will organise a series of events under Jan Sampark Abhiyan – a mass contact programme from May 26 to June 11 – enlightening voters about various schemes, programmes and achievements of the NDA government.
Addressing a press conference, BJP general secretary Sadanand Tanawade said the party will reach out to key voters like religious heads, judges, lawyers, senior citizens, women and youths with the government’s success stories.
“We will be meeting the Archbishop, Hindu religious heads and maulawi’s (Muslim religious chief) in the State and will place before them the various developmental works initiated by the Modi government, as far as Goa is concerned,” Tanawade said.
He said that the party has formed a four member committee comprising MLAs Michael Lobo, Glenn Ticlo, former MLA Siddhart Kuncalienkar and office-bearer Sanjiv Dessai, who will meet the key voters.
Tanawade said that the Jan Sampark Abhiyan will include events like vishesh (special) samparkh abhiyan, Labharati (Beneficiary) Sammelan, Budhi Jivi Samelan, cleanliness drive, senior citizen abhiyan and motorbike rallies.
“During the event, we will be interacting with over 7000 Scheduled Tribe and Schedule Caste people and enlighten them about the various schemes and initiatives for the welfare of the community,” he said.
Tanawade said that several central leaders are also expected to be in Goa to address people.
