MARGAO: In a shocking incident, a 21-year-old woman from a village within the Borim-Shiroda vicinity sustained serious injuries after being stabbed, reportedly by her male friend.
The Quepem Police indicated that this incident occurred on Monday afternoon, near Shirvoi, between 1 pm and 1.30 pm, as the young woman, identified as Sakshi Naik from Borim-Shiroda, was travelling towards Zambaulim on her scooter, when she was attacked by the accused identified as Ajay Kadam from Margao.
The injured woman was initially transported to the South Goa District Hospital in Margao. Due to the deteriorating condition, she was subsequently transferred to the Goa Medical College and Hospital at Bambolim for further treatment.
On receiving information about the incident, Lady PSI Rifa Barretto and other staff arrived at the location near Shirvoi. They conducted the preliminary investigation and adhered to the necessary legal procedures. During their on-site investigation, the Quepem police conducted a thorough search of the area where the incident took place; however, the weapon used in the assault has not yet been recovered.
According to police sources, the victim was en route to Zambaulim on her scooter when the accused allegedly intercepted her in his car. Following a verbal altercation, he reportedly stabbed her with a knife, inflicting severe injuries. The authorities stated that the accused initially took her to the South Goa District Hospital but subsequently left the premises.
When contacted, the Quepem Police confirmed that an offence has been registered. The police pressed into service the dog squad and fingerprint experts in their investigation. Multiple police teams are currently engaged in locating the accused. Preliminary inquiries revealed that the victim and the accused were known to each other, and the motive behind the assault remains undetermined.
