Scuffle Erupts in Calangute as GoaMiles Taxi Driver and Tourist Assaulted by Tourist Taxi Drivers

Accused taxi drivers Laxman Salgaonkar, Mukesh Matkar and Hemant Malik arrested for assaulting the duo

CALANGUTE: A scuffle broke out at Gauravaddo, Calangute, when a GoaMiles taxi driver and a tourist, who was staying at a resort, were allegedly assaulted by three tourist taxi drivers on Monday.

According to police, the incident occurred at around 3 pm, when the guest identified as Anurag, staying in Fairfield Resort at Gauravaddo, Calangute, contacted a GoaMiles taxi to pick him up.

When the GoaMiles taxi arrived, the driver was blocked from picking

up the guest by the tourist taxi owners. The GoaMiles taxi driver immediately contacted Anurag, who proceeded to board the GoaMiles taxi, parked a few metres away.

This infuriated the group

In the scuffle, a gold chain belonging to Anurag was broken, the police said.

Following a complaint by resort staff Elvis Rodrigues, Police arrested the trio identified as Laxman Salgaonkar, 33, Mukesh Matkar, 40, both residents of Gauravaddo, Calangute, and Hemant Malik, 33, a resident of Pernem.

The Calangute police have registered an offence against the accused under Sections 126 (2), 115 (2), 135 (2), 324 (2) and 3 (5) of the BNS. Further investigations are on.
