MARGAO: The Patriarchal Seminary of Rachol hosted its annual Inter-Religious Meet on October 2, to commemorate Gandhi Jayanti, with the theme ‘Journeying Together, Strengthening Unity, Radiating Hope.’ The event saw participants from different faiths discussing how unity and harmony can be fostered among diverse communities.

Rev Dr Donato Rodrigues, Rector of the seminary, welcomed the gathering, setting the tone for a day focused on mutual respect and collective well-being. The highlight of the event was the Unity Act, where representatives of different religions symbolically opened the petals of a single flower to show that despite religious differences, all can coexist harmoniously within the nation.
Dr Heena Shaball, representing the Islamic community, spoke on the importance of hope and unity in facing life’s challenges. “Humanity’s journey is not solitary but collective. By carrying hope in our hearts, we can overcome any obstacles together,” she emphasised.
Representing the Sikh faith, retired Navy Officer Bhai Dalbir Singh, highlighted the power of love and selflessness, reminding the audience that “God speaks through love, and this should be translated into charity towards every human.”
Swami Sughoshananda of the Chinmaya Mission, speaking on behalf of the Hindu community, urged everyone to recognize the divine presence within all beings. “Though we may follow different religions, we are one as Indians, and unity is our strength,” he said.
Dr. Elvis Gonsalves, representing the Catholic community, shared the message of acceptance and respect for all religions, stating, “All religions are pathways to God. We must embrace each other without discrimination.”
The event also featured cultural performances by students, youth, and seminarians, showcasing the message of unity in diversity and the importance of combating extremism. The gathering concluded with participants pledging an oath to live in unity and hope.
