VASCO: In a raid conducted near Dabolim airport on Wednesday afternoon, the Vasco police seized 4 kilograms of ganja worth Rs 4 lakh from the possession of a Orissa native, who was operating from a temporary hutment erected near the Airport.
According to the police, based on reliable information that a person was selling ganja to people near Dabolim airport, a team of Vasco police led by PI Nolasco Raposo, along with PSI Shivram Gawas, and few police constables conducted the raid near Dabolim airport and caught accused Makund Jena (62), native of Ganjam district in Orissa red-handed for being in possession of 4 kgs of ganja worth Rs 4 lakh.
Police investigation revealed that the accused was a labour contractor working for a private company involved in the construction of grade separator project near Dabolim airport. Police said preliminary investigation revealed that the accused brought ganja from Orissa and was selling it to his customers near the airport.
“We have been verifying the source of ganja as claimed by the accused, who has been booked and arrested under section 20(b)(ii)(b) of NDPS Act 1985. He will be produced before court on Thursday and further inquiry in the case will reveal more facts,” Raposo said.
Meanwhile, this is the third NDPS case booked at Vasco police station for the current year.
