VALPOI: Under Community Diabetes Care, three Diabetes Speciality Clinics have been inaugurated at Community Health Centre, Valpoi, Primary Health Centre, Sanquelim and Community Health Centre Pernem.
It is first of its kind of services where the patients will be given personal care by the professionals.
To set up these clinics, the Government of Goa has partnered with Novo Nordisk Education Foundation which is global health care company with more than 90 years of experience in diabetes management.
After the inauguration, Project Manager Dr Anup Netravalkar said, “This is the unique initiative brought up by Health Department, which will have specialised diabetes centre providing diagnosis, consultation, counselling, education and overall comprehensive treatment free of cost. In addition, this centre would also provide free anti-diabetic drugs both oral and insulin.”
He said that a dedicated diabetic educator would provide counselling on diabetes patients on diet, exercise, monitoring and medication. In addition, Anganwadi workers would also be making home visits for diabetes testing and provide relevant diabetes education literature.
Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said that “changing diabetes barometer” programme was initiated and established during his earlier tenure as the Health Minister back in 2008 on a pilot basis in association with Novo Nordisk. “At that time, I had promised people of Goa that this initiative will reach out and benefit everyone, and as promised, we are now inaugurating 15 Community Diabetes Care Centres across the state of Goa in various hospitals,” he said.
“Under this programme, we will be providing free treatment for all people suffering from diabetes. We will have in-depth training based on latest international curriculum for the government doctors and health care workers,” Rane added.
