“It is to inform you that the proceedings of the special meeting to elect the chairperson and vice chairperson is not yet received in this office. Therefore, the no-confidence motion moved by you cannot be considered at this stage,” Pilarnekar stated in his letter.

It may be recalled that Hodarkar was elected on April 1 by 8-7 vote margin.

The 10 councillors namely Rhucha Subhash Vasta, Pramod Damu Naik, Reema Alise, Yolanda Pereira, Tony Coutinho, Carmelina Morais, Damodar Narcinva Bhende, Vishwas Pandu Sawant, Sushant R Naik and Jasmine Braganza signed the no confidence motion within few hours after electing Hodarkar as chairperson and submitted the same to the DMA the same day.

“What is happened in Curchorem is not a good sign for democracy. You cannot murder it and too much interference in the functioning of local bodies is not advisable. After the election of chairperson and vice chairperson the whole procedure thereafter which was adopted was totally wrong and was very difficult for DMA to accept it. We cannot hold them ransom. Once they have made their choice it should be respected,” said Domnic Fernandes, former Law Minister.
