MAPUSA: ABC Sports Club, Arambol held their nerves in the penalty shoot-out to edge past Nuvem Sports Club 5-4 and enter the finals of St Lawrence Cup Soccer organized by Agassaim Youth Club in association with Parish Youth of Agassaim at Agassaim ground, Friday. The teams were locked goalless at full time.
Nuvem clearly the dominant side but missed chances cost them dearly. Mefon Coutinho couldn’t convert from close range and then he headed over in front of the open goal. At the other end, Arambol settled with a defensive approach and did not have a single shot on target in the first session. Changing over, Arambol looked aggressive but Sadrick Rodrigues’ clever chip from 40-yards out sailed inches over. Subsequently, Arambol keeper Kewan D’Souza came to his sides rescue by tipping over Nuvem’s Myron Borges’ rasping volley. In the tie-breaker, Vithal, Gladstor, Shashank, Sylvester and Anant scored for Arambol. Richard, Joel, Prestley and Alrich converted for Nuvem while Ivon’s attempt was blocked by Arambol’s Avelino, securing a place in Sunday’s final against Clube Sao Miguel de Taleigao.
