ABC Boys beat Swindon Boys 5-3 via the tie-breaker to emerge champs in Benaulim interward football tournament organised by Swindon Boys, Benaulim at Xhemumoll-Bandar, Benaulim on Sunday. Both teams were tied 1-1 at the end of regulation period.
Both ABC and Swindon displayed attacking football and kept the Sunday crowd on their toes. There were few chances at either end with both team defenders playing their heart out in keeping their citadel intact.
Josli put ABC into the lead.
The second session, continued in the same vein with both the teams playing absorbing soccer. Swindon struck the rhythm and Nelson equalised with a snap shot.
In the ensuing penalty shoot-out, Frazier, Cedric, Agnel and Alfred were on target for ABC while Hanky and Zamoro netted for Swindon.
ABC were richer by Rs 15,000 while Swindon had to settle for Rs 10,000.
Following prizes were awarded: Best half of the tournament: Agnel (St Sebastian). Best forward of the tournament: Crickson of Real Benaulim. Best disciplined team: St Anthony’s Calvaddo. Best defender of the tournament: Vincy (Real Benaulim).
Best goalkeeper of the final: Salem (Swindon Boys). Best forward of the final: Nelson (Swindon Boys). First goal of the final: Jesli (ABC Boys). Best half of the final: Frazier (ABC Boys). Best defender of the final: Popu (Swindon Boys). Youngest player of the tournament: Richie (Swindon Boys).
Mickky Pacheco, MLA was the chief guest and gave away the prizes. Dr Hubert Gomes, social worker, was the guest of honour. Ex-MRF goalkeeper Avertano Furtado, Mathew Diniz, Carmelina Fernandes, Sarpanch VP Benaulim and Stanley Fernandes were the special invitees.
