MARGAO: Navelim farmers raised serious objection to the releasing of water into cultivable fields by the western bypass contractor, on Tuesday.
“Navelim farmers have objected to water being released in cultivated fields by western bypass contractor,” said Navelim resident Joseph Vaz.
Margao Town police were called on to the site following complaints from locals. Locals were upset with the scant respect and failure to take affected locals and farmers into confidence.
On Wednesday, the local farmers visited the site again and left after they were assured that the work of water being dumped into their fields was stopped. However, despite the claims of the police, no date with the collector has been set yet.
