PANJIM: The State treasury has received a shot of Rs 14 crore as one of the mining lessees has paid stamp duty of Rs 14 crore. Another Rs 60 crore is expected Wednesday, officials said.
The last date for paying stamp duty is February 28. The Goa Foundation affidavit filed on Tuesday, however, points out, “The price of the iron ore leases that Goa government can get at the time of renewal could well be few lakh crores. We have already shown in para 20 (a) of this affidavit that the natural asset in the ground amounts to 577.172 million tonnes. Estimated value at the rate of USD 100 per tonne is Rs 3 lakh crore or more precisely, Rs 311580 crore.”
