MAPUSA: Seven out of eleven panch members of Anjuna-Caisua village panchayat have written to the Directorate of Panchayat requesting the immediate calling of meeting of elected members and the election of sarpanch and deputy sarpanch in the next 24 hours.
Panch members Patric Almeida, Pratima Govekar, Lavinio Rebello, Pedro Mendonca, Devanand Shirodkar, Sandesh Khorjuvekar and Sheetal Naik have written to the Directorate to fix the first meeting of the elected members of panchayat and conduct election of panchayat heads by July 11.
The letter stated that though the first meeting was schedule on July 8, it was adjourned since the presiding officer Krishna Gadekar was absent. The officer was later replaced by Sandesh Naik, who reached late for the meeting and subsequently refused to conduct the election and adjourned the meeting for the next date.
The members said that due to delay in the first meeting and without sarpanch and deputy, the day-to-day affairs of the village panchayat were being affected.
They also stated that the act of refusal to conduct election as per the direction of the directorate by presiding officer Naik was illegal and contrary to the provision of the Goa Panchayat Raj Act.
