MARGAO: The Margao Municipal Council workers are preparing to go on a pen-down strike, over the delayed departmental promotions and other demands of Municipal employees.
The General Secretary of the Goa Municipal Employees Association Anil Shirodkar said one of the MMC Market Inspectors retired two years ago and he too had retired last year, but the vacancies of the retired employees have yet to be filled. This is injustice on the Surveyors and LDCs of the MMC and they are entitled for promotion through the Departmental Promotion Committee, he said.
It is learnt from the MMC sources that there are chances that the vacant situations may get forfeited as the DMA has asked for the information of why they have not been filled.
The General Secretary has warned that the Association would give a short notice after one week and wait and then go on a pen-down strike, if the demands were not fulfilled.

MMC counter for trade licence
The MMC will soon have a dedicated counter for issuing trade licence and the collection of Sign-Board tax.
The counter will be open for one month from September 18 onward and MMC has assured that the twin facilities would be provided in a hassle-free manner.
The Chairperson hoped that the revenue collection would jump after the exercise was complete and said it was an opportunity for people to come forward before a crackdown on the defaulters begins.
The Chairperson said the licence would be on the basis of one undertaking on Rs 50 stamp paper and connection proof of electricity or water.
MMC Chief Officer Agnelo Fernandes said there were several businesses running without licence in the town and this will help with the revenue and also to ascertain the number of traders in the town. The Chairperson admitted that there were shortcomings in the administration of MMC and have also contemplated on outsourcing of the collection of trade and other taxes on a revenue sharing model.
