It was disgusting to see the filth in the building leading to the sale of chickens in the Mapusa Municipal Market. While citizens are being urged to wear masks, sanitise their hands and avoid touching the surfaces, we see the very “callous and don’t care” attitude of those responsible in the municipality for the filthy conditions in the midst of a worldwide COVID-19 pandemic.
The lives of citizens do not seem to be a priority to those in the State who would seem to be happy to welcome new and strange viruses emerging from the murky dirt. There seems to be no directions given to the vendors to maintain even a minimum of hygiene in the sale of chickens in their respective stalls.

While citizens are being fined, and rightly so, for the non use of masks, there is no penalty for those who keep public places disgustingly dirty and unhygienic. I would urge the authorities in the Mapusa Municipal Council to please take note of this matter seriously, and provide the citizens with places that are clean, hygienic and free from the very real possibility of infections and diseases. We do not want our famous Mapusa market to be the origins of another kind of virus.
