CALANGUTE: PWD has started repairs and re-construction works on the damaged culvert, following a request from Calangute farmers.
Lobo inaugurated the re-construction works of the damaged culvert on the CHOGM road between St Alex Church and St Alex’s Convent at Naikka Vaddo, Calangute, in the presence of St Alex Church Assistant Parish Priest Fr Norbert Lobo, PWD officials, contractor, locals and BJP members. The work has been estimated at Rs 7 lakh and will be completed at the earliest to avoid traffic problems during tourist season.
Addressing media persons, Lobo said the work on repairs and re-construction of the damaged culvert has been undertaken following requests from the locals and farmers of Calangute.
“Farmers of Calangute were unable to cultivate their paddy fields due to flooding. The smooth flow of rainwater was blocked at the exit points due to the broken culvert and the farmers were unwilling to cultivate the fields. The re-constructed culvert will provide an opportunity for the farmers to take up cultivation. All the major culverts in the Calangute constituency will be taken up in phases,” he informed.
Fr Lobo hoped that the MLA will continue with the development of the village in the interest of locals and prosperity of the village. Earlier, Siddesh Shirodker welcomed, while Albert Norton proposed the vote of thanks.
