Goa police has implemented routine enhanced security precautions in wake of happening events like festivals, elections and cricket match round the corner.
Speaking at a press briefing on Thursday police spokesperson SP Atmaram Deshpande told reporters that they have already heightened the security in Goa as precautionary measure.
“We are taking routine precautions owing to festivals, municipal elections, cricket match and other activities being in the tourist season. We have enough law and order at this stage…” he said.
The officer said that the department is most likely to deploy tight security on October 16, being the first anniversary of Margao bomb blast.
“We may heighten security on October 16 and November 4 (Diwali-eve), as an explosive last year was carried out on Diwali-eve,” Deshpande said.
A powerful blast had ripped off on busy street at Margao when explosives kept on Eterno scooter went off on Diwali-eve. The two men – Malgonda Patil and Yogesh Naik, belonging to Hindu right wing organization Sanathan Saunstha who were allegedly carrying explosives died in the blast.
Government would besides request additional force to be deployed at the cricket match venue on October 24.
“The stadium will be packed with nearly 25,000 to 30,000 spectators. We will use our force but additional force would ease out pressure…we will ask for additional force for the match,” said the officer.
Goa is hosting one-day international cricket match between India and Australia at Nehru stadium, which is the final ODI that will bring down curtains on the ongoing Australia tour to India.
