MARGAO: Sarpanch Christina V Vaz of Macazana panchayat clarified to gram sabha members that there was no move by the body to remove the post office presently running from old panchayat building as alleged by some members.
The issue was raised at the gram sabha meeting held on Sunday that the body wanted to remove the post office from its premises.
A resolution was taken by gram sabha members demanding that in view of government doing away with house tax in village and that the amount of Rs 20,000 given was inadequate for running of the panchayat expenses as the body had been collecting Rs 80,000 per year as house tax.
It was pointed that the Macazana panchayat being weaker panchayat, the government should increase the amount of grant. Members asked the sarpanch to submit the copy of resolution to the competent authorities for necessary action.
