Friday’s Herald, on its front page, carried two news stories one of which filled deserving Goan communities with pride and honor while the other shamed them.
Goa celebrated the canonization of the Goan born Joseph Vaz as a saint, ceremonized in Sri Lanka, a rare spiritual honour. The other news that flashed is the allotment of two bungalows to the Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar, with the huge cost of Rs 50 lakh to be incurred on the repairs and renovations of one of them that will be used as official meeting place in addition to the Vidhan Sabha offices. The annual maintenance costs of these two bungalows, itself, could also be much more.
Surprisingly, the allegedly involved and arrested person, in the Ruby Residency building collapse, now on bail, is the Under Secretary (GA) of the current BJP government and is a matter of concern. BJP has been stooping low on its promises “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas” and ” Zero Tolerance to Corruption” and “Good Governance” ideologies.
They need to introspect into their own actions.
