PONDA: Ten candidates filed nomination papers for seven ZP constituencies in Ponda taluka on Thursday, taking the total number of candidates who have filed their nominations for the ZP elections to 18.
Till March 4, eight nominations were received, but on Thursday, returning officer and Ponda Deputy Collector Johnson Fernandes received 10 nominations for seven ZP constituencies of Betki Khandola, Curti, Kavlem, Veling-Priol, Usgao, Borim and Shiroda.
As per the seat-sharing agreement between MGP and BJP, the MGP is contesting from five ZP constituencies in Ponda, while BJP is contesting from Shiroda and Borim ZP seats. So far, three MGP candidates have filed their nominations from three constituencies. Ponda MLA Lavu Mamledar accompanied them while filing the nomination papers.
MGP candidates who filed nominations include Mohan Verenkar (Curti), Babita Gaonkar (Betki-Khandola) and Shivdas Gavde (Veling-Priol).
Other independent candidates who filed nominations include Srinisha Naik (Betki Khandola), Shubangi Naik (Kavlem), Adarsh Toraskar (Curti), Yuvaraj Naik (Usgao) and Salim Kadir Mulla (Curti).
Independent candidates who filed their nominations on Thursday includes Sradha Fadte and Kiran Fadte (Betki Khandola), Narayan Ram Naik and Shamir Kadar Badesab (Curti), Sintia Naik (Kavlem), Manurai Naik and Satish Naik (Borim) and Chhaya Velip, Molu Velip and Jaideep Shirodkar (Shiroda).
