MARGAO: The Cuncolim Block Congress committee on Saturday has warned the government to immediately unveil a package for the local youth in the proposed NIT, failing which the Committee has threatened to support the people’s agitation against the controversial project.
The Block Committee has also decided to rally behind the Sanvorcotto flood victims for full compensation under the Chief Minister Relief fund. At a meeting of the Block held today which was attended by the GPCC observer, Joe Dias, the party workers were explained on the controversial issue of NIT and the government’s meager compensation awarded to the flood victims.
When contacted after the meeting, acting Secretary Assiz Noronha said the committee has demanded that the government hold a power point presentation on the NIT before going ahead with the project.
“We want the government to explain the jobs that will be given to the local youth. Cuncolim has produced Judges and civil servants and they are certainly not meant for peons and watchmen. Let the government come out with a package for the locals in the NIT. If not, we will join the people to oppose the project tooth and nail,” he warned.
Paresh Desai said the block will join the opposition against the project since the NIT will not benefit the youth in terms of employment and reservation of seats.
As far as the compensation to the flood victims is concerned, Paresh said the Block has resolved to support the cause of the flood victims in getting full compensation for the loss caused by the floods.
