SANGUEM: A portion of false ceiling of a classroom at Government High School in Netravali collapsed during the school hours on Monday. Luckily no injuries were reported as the students had just left the classroom for physical training class.
Inquiries revealed that the false ceiling was done just a year ago after the school was given a new look by the Government considering the ageing structure of the school building.
However, on Monday a portion of the false ceiling in a classroom suddenly collapsed bringing down several sheets of the false ceiling.
Sources informed that just minutes before the incident, the class was taken for physical training and as such there were no students in the class.
Sources informed that if the incident had occurred during class hours, the false ceiling would have come down on the students leading to injuries.
Immediately after the incident, Sanguem MLA Prasad Gaonkar visited the school and took stock of the situation. Gaonkar reportedly informed of conducting an inquiry over the quality of the renovation work undertaken by the contractor.
