BICHOLIM: Indian medical Association (IMA) has adopted three girls for next 14 years under “Sukanya Samruddhi Yojna” initiated by the State government.
The adoption ceremony of the girl child and programme of handing over of amount through cheque was held at Hirabai Zantye hall Bicholim today at the hands of Bicholim MLA Rajesh Patnekar.
Also present on the occasion were State IMA president Dr Medha Salkar, Bicholim taluka IMA president Dr Shekhar Salkar, IMA Secretary Dr Kalpana Chodankar and Treasurer Kartavi Mashelkar and Bank of India manager Milind Rege.
The three girls adopted are Vedika R Gawas from Keri-Sattari, Antara U Redkar from Pilgao-Bicholim and Sharvari S Ghadi from Gauthan-Sakhali.
On this occasion a cheque amount of Rs 42,000 which includes Rs 14,000 per child four next 14 years was handed over to the parents of the girls.
While briefing about the scheme Dr Shekhar Salkar said IMA has taken this initiative in order to help a girl child with regards to their future education and financial difficulties. He added that they tied up with Bank of India (BoI) for this scheme.
MLA Rajesh Patnekar said this is the good initiative undertaken by IMA for supporting a girl child for their future career and has indirectly helped government by extending its support to this scheme.
