VASCO: The Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) Chief Officer Agnelo Fernandes has sought the support of every Vasco resident to make the town garbage free.
He was addressing the 56th Goa Liberation Day function celebrated by the municipality on Tuesday, wherein the Chairperson Deepak Naik unfurled the national flag.
“We need support of every citizen of Vasco for in our endeavour to make Vasco garbage free city. We request the citizens to give segregated garbage and help the MMC in its door to door garbage collection process. I also wish that each house hold should plant at least one sapling and maintain it by watering it as one tree can spread greenery around and this which will help in reducing pollution. Smoke free, pollution free, tobacco free, citizen friendly administration, women and child safety, reducing traffic congestion and day care centre for the elderly are few of our priorities. I am confidence that philanthropists from Vasco will come forward and be part of our vision,” Fernandes said.
Meanwhile, in the celebration held at Tilak Maidan in Vasco, Panchayat Minister Mauvin Godinho assured to the people of Vasco that the State government would not allow any further expansion of coal handling.
He also appealed to the youth to stay away from drugs. He said that government has initiated steps and would take more stringent steps to make Goa free from drugs.
