PONDA: Since past few years due to increase in theft cases, Marcaim locals stress on the need of setting up a police station at Marcaim Industrial Estate.
According to villagers, the Marcaim Constituency has two industrial estates at Marcaim and Kundaim. Both are located close to each other and considering increasing crimes including theft and accidents since past decade they had demanded to set up a police station.
The people from across India, who are working in these industrial estates are staying at Marcaim in rented premises.
Locals feel the presence of police station will create some fear among the people with criminal mindset.
The locals led by Premanand Gaude feel unsecured atmosphere in prevailing in recent times due to crimes.
“There is badly need of a police station in Marcaim Constituency. Until police station is built there is need to intensify police patrolling at Marcaim,” they added.
Gaude said, “Since there two industrial estates namely Kundaim and Marcaim, there is need of a police station for controlling crime and also for providing safety to locals residing nearby to industrial estates. More than 15 years ago, one girl working at Marcaim was shot dead while she was returning home from the industrial estate. Similarly, one accused shot one Marcaim girl at her residence over some issues. Besides, some thieves have even stolen wirings of one hall at Marcaim with intention to get copper from it in recent past.”
Recently, he said, “Navdurga Society was broke open. People of various natures reside in rented premises and hence there is need of police watch at Marcaim.”
