PANJIM: Minister Information Technology (IT) Rohan Khaunte on Saturday urged Portugal to invest in IT sector in Goa
Khaunte was addressing the gathering at the tenth edition of the Semana da Cultura Indo Portuguesa (Goa) which was attended by that country’s Minister for Environment Joao Pedro De Matos Fernandes.
“I urge and request the Minister for Environment of Portugal Joao Pedro De Matos Fernandes to look at the opportunities for Goa where IT is concerned, employment needs priority,” Khaunte said.
“As the State’s IT minister, I have been keeping a close watch on what Portugal is doing in the last 15 to 18 months. Our focus is on employment and changing Goa into an IT destination,” he said.
The minister said that culture today is strongly linked to the economics of every State.
“Culture and economics are getting deeply linked because of the technology enabled platforms; and this is where, as an IT minister, I have been keeping a close watch on what Portugal is doing,” Khanute said.
However, the IT minister said that our ambition is to be the most preferred start-up destination in the first 25 as far as Asia is concerned by 2025.
The event was also attended by the Consul General of Portugal in Goa, Antonio Chrystello Tavares.
