PANJIM: The suspense over which constituency Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar will contest the bypolls from could end on Tuesday evening. Party sources confirmed that Parrikar has zeroed-in on his traditional seat Panjim.
“He (Parrikar) is keen to contest from Panjim and he has the backing of the office-bearers and karyakartas. The announcement will most likely be made Tuesday evening after the GST Bill is discussed and passed in the Legislative Assembly, or Wednesday morning,” a party source told Herald.
If Parrikar selects Panjim, then MLA Siddharth Kuncalienkar will have to vacate the seat making way for his predecessor to contest for the sixth time from the constituency. As per procedure, once an MLA vacates a seat, the Chief Electoral Office has to inform the Election Commission to hold by-polls in the constituency. CEO Kunal has already intimated the ECI about the need for a by-election in Valpoi following Vishwajit Rane’s resignation from the membership of the Assembly in March.
