PANJIM: With uncertainty looming large over the mining industry, the State government plans to make tourism a vibrant sector that could play a significant role in the sustainable development of Goa.
Goa Governor B V Wanchoo while addressing the State Legislative Assembly on Monday said that government wants Goa to be the leading tourism destination in the country along with making it a most visible tourism brand.
Wanchoo said that the State has a tremendous unexploited potential for the promotion of tourism, which includes rich cultural heritage and architectural splendor.
“All efforts will be made to promote Goa as an attractive tourist destination at the international level and reach the level of 45 lakhs domestic and 15 lakhs foreign tourists arrivals in the next five years,” he said.
Wanchoo said that the government vision is also to make Goa a well-governed State, thus making it the most preferred destinations for investors.
Meanwhile, the Governor spelled out some of the priorities of the government in the coming years, which include good governance, creation of state-of-the-art-infrastructure, setting up of super specialty hospitals, development of agricultural and allied sector, improving road connectivity, better water supply and sanitation, single window clearance to attract investments and to bring in total transparency in the functioning of the government machinery in the State.
