PANJIM: The first day of the strike by truckers had little effect on the availability of vegetables, chicken and eggs in Panjim, with the markets being abuzz as usual.
While some vegetable vendors seemed to have shut their shops, stocks arrived in Panjim including that of onions, tomatoes and chillies, leaving the rates of vegetables largely untouched.
The Horticulture Corporation said that they have guaranteed stocks till Wednesday.
“We have stock till Wednesday. What happens after Wednesday will depend on the situation,” MD Orlando Rodrigues told Herald confirming that Monday’s stock arrived early morning.
“If the blockade continues till Wednesday, we may need police protection for our vehicles,” Rodrigues said.
Chicken and eggs remained available, with traders saying they do not know how long the situation would continue.
