PANJIM: A Maharashtra native was charred to death when his speeding car crashed into parked vehicles by the road side, triggering a fire.
The accident happened in the wee hours of Thursday morning near Raikar Hospital at Tonca, Caranzalem when the Honda City car driven by the man collided against three other vehicles parked in the locality and all the four vehicles caught fire with the impact. The car driver was charred to death in his seat before help could arrive. The Panjim Fire Services said that they had received a call from the control room early in the morning regarding the incident and a team of fire fighters rushed to the spot and doused the flames. The driver of the car was removed from the inferno and taken to the hospital where he was declared brought dead. From the identity cards that were retrieved from the wreckage of the car, the deceased person has been identified as Sujay Surlakar, 33 from Thane, Mumbai.

“Prima facie it looks like a case of rash and negligent driving but we will check for CCTV footages before arriving at any conclusion,” said Superintendent of Police (SP) North Goa Nidhin Valsan. Panjim DySP Sudesh Naik and PI Nikhil Palekar also visited the spot early morning.
