MARGAO, AUG 2
Villagers of Sao Jose de Areal on Sunday demanded that the Panchayat body approve all developmental projects in the village keeping the VP-3 status asked by the village in the Regional Plan 2021.
The villagers also demanded the immediate removal of all illegal scrap yards from the village and identify a new site.
At the adjourned gram sabha meeting held on Sunday, the villagers pointed out that the village has already settled for VP-3 FAR and demanded that the panchayat take the fact into account before approving future development.
The gram sabha members flooded the panchayat body with a volley of questions on various issues plaguing the village, especially on the illegal scrap yards and other illegal activities.
Members complained of unsatisfactory replies from the Panchayat on several issues and demanded that the body does its homework well before the meeting and reply the questions posed by the gram sabha member.
An activist Peter Viegas said that the panchayat had utterly failed in curbing illegalities in the villages, while demanding that the panchayat crack a whip against the illegalities.
He further added that the villagers would soon take up the matter with Director of panchayat and other authorities in an effort to continue their agitation against scrap yards and mega housing projects.
