VALPOI, JUNE 20 To reduce chances of floods in some villages in Sattari taluka, the water resources department (WRD) has commenced the work of removing plates of Bhandara at Ganjem.

To reduce chances of floods in some villages in Sattari taluka, the water resources department (WRD) has commenced the work of removing plates of Bhandara at Ganjem.
It may be recalled that WRD had constructed the bandara in river Mhadai at Ganjem few years ago under Central Government scheme ‘Pani Adva Pani Jeerva’. The bandara is located near raw water pumping station for Opa water works, Ganjem.
According to sources in WRD, water from Ganjem bandara is used at Opa water treatment plant.
WRD officials Arvind Salelkar, Arun Naik, Promod Badami and Shailesh Pokle are guiding the workers in removing the plates.
Sources informed that the work will continue for some more days. Meanwhile, villagers from Guleli, Dhamshe, Padeli, Bironde and Kankeri have urged WRD to complete the work of removing the plates soon to minimize chances of floods due to heavy rains in Sattari.
