CANACONA: A total of 34 candidates have filed their nominations for 12-member Canacona Municipal Council (CMC) elections till Wednesday afternoon.
Returning officer for CMC elections Uday Prabhu Dessai informed confirming the update revealed that a few candidates have submitted two separate set of nomination papers.

While the filing of nomination started slow but it gained momentum at the nick of time. Eleven nominations were filed on Tuesday and 19 submitted papers on Wednesday. Two nominations each were received on February 26 and March 1 respectively.
More aspirants are expected to file their nominations today before final deadline 1.00pm.
The canvassing to galvanize support for their candidature has not begun on a serious note in the different wards of the municipality, as the prospective candidates were apparently busy filing nominations.
Apart from the nominations filed earlier the returning officer Prabhu Dessai received nominations of Ranganath Naik Gaonkar from Nagarcem ward while Levino Gracias filed his nomination from Chaudi ward.
Jayashree Kishore Shet from Delem-1, Kishore Shet from Mastimoll, Amita Pagi from Kindlem, Wilson Fernandes, Fernandes Narciso Salvador and Ajay Gosavi from Ponsulem, Rajesh Naik, Madgaonkar Gandesh Chandu and Pereira Bazil Johnson from Rajbagh, Komarpant Maruthi Bombo, Shubam Sudhakar Komarpant and Sopan Ramdas Dhuri from Patnem, Dayanand Ganesh Pagi from Palolem-1 while from ward no XI Sharmila Dinkar Desai and ward number XII Pagui Laxuman Dharmu filed their nominations.
