Creatively unstoppable, Uday Chari’s love for painting and
the arts as a child found a very conducive atmosphere at his childhood home in
Assnora where music, theatre and the creativity as craftsman flowed. “I was the
first fine arts graduate at home,” says Uday. “I initially joined the Goa
College of Arts with the intention of making films, but after the foundation
course in the first year, I found painting was so much more fun and creative,”
reveals this BFA Graduate who specialised in painting during his course at the
college (1991-1996).
Grateful that his art college created an atmosphere for
students to approach things in a different manner, Uday says, “The ground work
of nurturing the artist’s mind is already done and then whatever medium of
expression he chooses is up to him.” Indebted to his professor Sadguru
Chendvenkar for helping develop this mind set, Uday recalls, “He taught us
creative painting without actually telling us what to do, but by guiding us
towards how to do it. This principle has helped me in other aspects of my
life.”

Considering college as the starting point in learning,
rather than it being restricted to a five-year course, Uday believes the
learning continually goes on. Taking a creative route from artist to graphic
designer to sub-editor and now as one of Big FM 92.7’s best loved
radio-jockeys, Porvorim-based Uday knows the creative process will always go
on.
