Speaking to Herald, the chairman of GCA, Dr Shekhar Salkar told that “they were trying to finalise the international cricket stadium and most of the formalities were now over”.
The 40 crore project which is to come up at Van-Maulinguem, in Bicholim taluka is expected to take shape in the next two years if the proposal is approved.
“The project would come up on an area of 2.40 lakh sq mts at Van and the decision about it would be taken tomorrow (Wednesday) during the Managing Committees meeting”, Dr Salkar said. As per the sources the stadium would be taken up under the PPP project and it could be funded by the Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) and GCA.
“This is a major project and would also create employment and is likely to be completed in two years,” Dr Salkar disclosed.
As per sources, the stadium is coming up in Mayem constituency the local MLA and Deputy speaker, Anant Shet has assured all his support for the project.
It may be recalled that some years ago the project which was to come up at Tivim was stopped after there was opposition from the locals.
