PANJIM: There was no mention of Rs 35,000 crore scam or recovery of the amount in the Governor’s address to the Goa Assembly on Monday.
The amount as estimated in the Shah Commission of Inquiry Report, is widely expected to go up to Rs 50,000 crore after the third part of the report is tabled.
Till date the government has not taken action against any substantial figure that had been allegedly involved in the illegal mining rampant in the State.
Action has been taken against one former mining director and six other functionaries (one is no more after having taken his own life). Three drivers have also been transferred.
The department had issued the order suspending the six officials ~ assistant geologists, Shobhana Revankar and Deepak Mayenkar and Assistant geologist at the Mines department, Dattatraya Bhave, since deceased, UDC Baban Gaonkar, draftsman Robert Gonsalves and technical assistant Anthony Lopes after the report had pointed out that officials had failed to control illegal mining in the State. Bhave committed suicide by hanging from the ceiling at his Ponda residence.
