OLD GOA: Claiming that there is not enough awareness on the conduct of gram sabha, Curca locals urged the panchayat authorities to revert back to the earlier mode of announcing over the loudspeaker so that all the villagers become aware of it.
Speaking at the gram sabha on Sunday, a local Suresh Palkar informed that the current method of pasting notices at public places and announcing at religious places is not serving its purpose entirely as some villagers still remain in the dark.
“Hence, it will be better for the panchayat to revert to announcing over the loudspeaker mounted on a vehicle, particularly on a Sunday when all the villagers remain at home,” Palkar resolved to which Sarpanch Maria da Cunha duly agreed.
Palkar then urged the panchayat authorities to conduct the next gram sabha in Bambolim so that locals from that area also benefit.
Sarpanch Cunha agreed to it, but urged Palkar to get NOC from the owner of the premises where the gram sabha would be conducted.
“We have no objection to hold gram sabha meetings at such places where the public will benefit,” Cunha later told Herald.
