PANJIM: Fourteen government high schools and two higher secondary schools are renamed after the freedom fighters, who martyred for Goa’s liberation from the Portuguese colonial rule.
A notification in this regard was issued by Director of Technical Education Vivek Kamat. The schools are renamed as proposed by the head of the institutions in consultation with the Parent Teacher Association and school management committees.
“The mentioned government high schools and government higher secondary schools shall be renamed as proposed by head of institutions with consultation of PTA/SMC of the schools in accordance with the martyrs list provided by Department of Home (General),” the notification reads. Of the total 14 high schools, four are at Pernem, two each at Bicholim and Tiswadi while one each are from Bardez, Sattari, Ponda, Margao, Mormugao and Vasco. The two higher secondary schools are located at Ponda and Vasco.
The Directorate of Education (DoE) has identified 71 government-run high schools and seven higher secondary schools for renaming in the name of the martyrs struggled in Goa’s freedom.
