PANJIM: The Opposition Congress has put more focus in the Tiswadi Taluka which is home to crucial five Assembly seats and has been admitting prominent leaders from the taluka.
The Congress is all set to quell the challenge posed by Panjim BJP MLA Babush Monserrate, who is on record that the BJP will wrest all five seats in Tiswadi Taluka in the ensuing Assembly polls.
On Friday, the Congress readmitted former Corporation of City of Panaji (CCP) Mayor Tony Rodrigues, former councillors Naguesh Kariashetty, his wife Resha Kariashetty and Leena Madkaikar and social worker Samil Volvoikar from Corlim. Speaking on the occasion, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) President Girish Chodankar alleged that Babush Monserrate is thinking that Tiswadi taluka is his fiefdom and is known for ditching political parties.
Referring to Monserrate’s statement that he will work to win all five seats for BJP, Chodankar said that most of the constituencies have remained Congress strongholds in the past several elections.
Chodankar further charged that the BJP which is claiming to be a party with a difference is now promoting family raj and claimed that the people of Goa are now looking for an alternative, which only Congress can provide.
Later, in the evening social Samil Volvoikar, who had quit the BJP a few days ago, rejoined the Congress along with his workers and supporters.
