PANJIM: The Goa Commission for Protection of Child Rights (GSCPCR) to provide shelter to homeless families as several places across the State has families with children living on the streets.

“The District Magistrate may look for a suitable public place, hostel, vacant government quarters, etc and explore the involvement and support from the Departments such as Social Welfare, Education, Local Authority (Panchayat/Municipality), Tribal Welfare, Health, etc to ensure the temporary arrangements suitable to the children are made for their security and well-being amid these pandemic times,” letter to District Magistrates of North and South Goa reads.
The Commission has also drawn the attention towards Shelter for Urban Homeless (SUH) component of National Urban Livelihood Mission Scheme which provides for family shelters — for families living on the streets where family shelters may be provided with a special design for privacy, with shared common spaces.
The Commission has requested the administration to give highest priority and compliance at the earliest.
Several children living on the streets are adopting the livelihood option of doing odd jobs, begging or selling products on the streets and living in vulnerable situations, the letter stated.
As such, the Commission has decided to adopt measures to ensure a fit facility as per provision under Section 51 of the JJ Act, 2015.
