Representatives from several unions including bank, river navigation, taxi associations and workers unions said they would join in protesting as a means of showing their support to the cause of workers.
Speaking to media persons, AITUC general secretary said this would be a revolutionary movement that would force the government to act. “The government through several amendments in the recent past has proved that it is anti farmers and workers and is in favour of huge conglomerates. They want to bring the mall culture and finish the business of small people. September 2 will be the biggest landmark movement that will bring together private, KTC, public and private transport, rickshaws, taxis, banks, insurance, river navigation and other essential services,” he said.
Thought the plan of how the day-long nationwide strike will be implemented is yet to be finalized, he added that it would be done in the most democratic manner possible. “We will be meeting with workers in all parts of the State to figure out how this will be done,” he said.
